The brawl between the Cleveland Browns and the Pittsburgh Steelers on Thursday, November 14th, was a disgrace to the league.
Stupid, avoidable, dangerous, bush league, you name it. All those words and more can describe the scrum perfectly.
I’m not going to recap the whole fight, but watching it live was scary for me just sitting on the couch. I was utterly shocked and confused during it all.
The notable players on both teams involved were-
Browns- Myles Garrett, Larry Ogunjobi
Steelers- Mason Rudolph, Maurkice Pouncey, David DeCastro
Myles Garrett made the dumbest decision of his life when he clubbed quarterback Mason Rudolph with Rudolph’s own HELMET. Pouncey then stuck up for his teammate and proceded to punch and kick Garrett while DeCastro was trying to pull Garrett from the scene. Ogunjobi then came behind Rudolph and laid him out, enticing more chaos.
The penalties were given out on Friday the 15th, and they are as follows:
Garrett- suspended indefinitely, and at least for the remainder of the season.
Pouncey: 3 games
Ogunjobi: 1 game
The Browns and Steelers were also given a 250K fine each.
I believe Garrett got what he deserved, but I think there is one more thing to consider for him. I believe Garrett should be arrested for assault. A football helmet is something that if connected just right, can kill a man. Take that into perspective, Myles Garrett could’ve killed Mason Rudolph had he hit just right. I think jail time should’ve been assessed for assault.
Garrett and the entire Browns organization will likely never let this down, and that is all in the fault of Myles. Stupid decisions often cause someone’s life to change, and now, Garrett will have the reputation as a dirty player. And there is nothing wrong with that, as his action was disgraceful.
