With the ongoing construction of the BlueOval SK battery plant paving the way for new jobs and expansion in Hardin County, Elizabethtown is blossoming into a much larger community by the second. I’m not just talking about the increase in traffic either, I’m implying the multitude of new businesses expected to be built throughout the rest of the year.
Currently, at least four (possibly five) major establishments have been stamped for approval and are either being built, preparing for construction, or already open for business. Here is a list of said companies and their production details:
Crumbl Cookies
Located at 167 Towne Drive, this popular bakery known for its elaborate cookie flavors that rotate weekly has finally come to our little town. It made its grand opening on April 19 and already the lines have been out the door. Everyone has been rushing to get a taste of the delicious treats inside, what better way to satisfy a sweet tooth than a box full of sugar?
Social on Main
This sweet little number located at 110 St. Main St. is quite the social concept. Including a variety of entertainment such as duckpin bowling and an electronic gaming lounge, along with food service and a bar, Social on Main is an assembly where people can come to socialize in a family-friendly atmosphere and kick it back. Owner Neeley Hacker really outdid herself with this one, as the business has already made quite an impression on the public since its opening on March 19.
Dunkin’ Donuts
Probably considered Starbucks’ number one competitor, Dunkin’ Donuts is currently under construction at 900 W. Dixie Avenue across from Baptist Health Hardin. Completion dates for the store are still undetermined, but rest assured there will be a new coffee shop to visit very soon.
Malibu Jack’s (Possibly)
If you’ve driven past the Towne Mall recently, you’ve probably noticed the fresh paint job on the outside section of the building where Sears used to reside. To answer what everyone is probably wondering, that section is supposedly being crafted into a Malibu Jack’s: an all-indoor family fun park. It includes many enjoyable activities such as go-carts, laser tag, mini golf, arcade games, food, and so much more. Though there has yet to be a confirmed source, if the rumor is true, it is sure to bring in a swarm of visitors and maybe will finally brighten up our disappearing mall.
Publix
With Walmart, Kroger, and Sam’s Club being the main grocery stores in the area, gaining one more wouldn’t hurt. Soon to be located at the north end of the city at Ring Road and Pear Orchard Road, Publix will be joining the trio. A timeline has not been provided for construction, but the plans are underway. Maybe this will clear up some of the congestion in Kroger every weekend.
Overall, our quaint little town is gaining some very splendid attractions and it is so satisfying to see new signs layering the streets. Not to mention, its growth will have a phenomenal impact on young adults as they begin searching for a new career path and should leave them with a handful of opportunities. Hopefully, we’ll only see more and more as the months go by, but until then, go snag a Crumbl cookie.
