Three-year future business leader, junior Mya Reddick, is working hard to perform the duties of state vice president in the 2024-25 school year. Being appointed in November has come with its challenges, but Reddick is more than up to these challenges. With steadfast goals and consideration of her fellow future business leaders, Reddick is ensuring that FBLA is a place for everyone.
According to FBLA, Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) is a student-run organization that focuses on building a space where students can grow into “community-minded business leaders in a global society through relevant career preparation and leadership experiences.”
In the past couple of years, Central Hardin has become more involved in FBLA, and students have quickly taken up the mantle of involved members. From competitions at state conventions to volunteer opportunities, FBLA is a club for those who want to make a difference in their communities.
Sponsored by business teacher Christopher Greene, Central Hardin’s FBLA has provided many experiences for students to become involved in their community. Such experiences include field trips to the Corvette Museum and Ale 8, making blankets for terminally ill children, and competing in state and national conventions. FBLA is a growing space where students can work towards their future in a caring environment, but there is always room for improvement.
Reddick said she noticed that “communication between the upper levels of FBLA and school-level clubs has been lacking in recent years.”
Reddick is “eager to enhance communication within Central’s club and in Kentucky FBLA as a whole.”
She is beginning by building good relationships with the other state officers, continuously working towards improving member involvement in activities, and setting her sights on addressing the gap between Bruin Academy and main-campus members.
Reddick says she is looking to “increase membership with younger members, include them in the current group, and build relationships with those on and off campus.”
Reddick’s time in the FBLA has been an impactful journey and she looks forward to continuing along this path. Her journey to becoming state Vice President started last year when she and her friend from FBLA decided to run together for Vice President and President, respectively. Through the candidacy, Reddick became more involved in the club and looks forward to running for higher positions in her senior year.
Reddick is dedicated to making the FBLA a place where anyone can build and grow long-lasting relationships. Reddick is excited by her chance to improve the club in her position, and the club is supportive of her endeavors.
Greene said that Reddick will be able to “contribute directly to our state” as Vice President. This hands-on experience will allow her to pursue her goals as well as those voiced by the whole of Kentucky FBLA.
She said that many of her friendships would not have happened without FBLA and she will miss being a part of the FBLA community after graduating next school year.
