The fashion-esque Met Gala has been bedazzling the world for decades with its beautifully crafted designs and just as beautiful vessels. It’s an iconic event that year after year, raises eight-figure sums in charity for The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute. And this year, they’re taking a fashionable leap into history.

The 2024 Met Gala will celebrate the Costume Institute’s new exhibition, “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion,” and the official dress code is “The Garden of Time,” inspired by J.G. Ballard’s short story of the same title written in 1962. The exhibit will feature approximately 250 rare items spanning over 400 years of fashion history. Designs by Schiaparelli, Dior, and Givenchy will be included and any designs too fragile to be worn again will be displayed using multiple forms of sensory stimulation. The exhibition will also revolve around three main zones–Land, Sea, and Sky–that pay tribute to the natural world.

Hosts for this year’s Met Gala are Zendaya, Jennifer Lopez, Bad Bunny, and Chris Hemsworth. They will be among a crowd of at least 600 attendees who are all recognized as stars and young creatives. Though the actual guest list is kept secret until the evening before the event, we can be sure that there will be many other notable faces.

The Met Gala will take place on May 6 in New York City at The Metropolitan Museum of Art. Information on how to watch the elegant show is still being determined, but in past years, fans have stayed updated on the action through Vogue’s livestream.

Overall, the Met Gala is one of the most anticipated events of the year. Fashion novas alike adore the chance to see the extravagant garments and celebrity lifestyle. Of course, there are those who look down upon the famous runway; some say it’s an elitist event that has become another social gathering where the rich thrive among the poor. Though there is truth to this, it’s better to remain positive and just enjoy the occasion. It’s not every day they walk the red carpet. Then again, maybe it is.
