“I believe the award means, to me, that the kids are successful. When the kids get awards it’s a direct reflection of the teacher and for the kids to feel they can nominate me and the people at regions to see what’s going on at your club at a bigger level. It means a lot,” Christopher Greene, FBLA advisor and winner of the 2024 Outstanding FBLA Advisor for Region 3, said.
The 2024 Outstanding FBLA Advisor Award is a marvelous achievement. The award is based on student involvement, community work, field trips, awards, competitions, etc. There is a list with 75 items on it that must have been completed and submitted by the FBLA advisor.
“We have 155-160 members in total and last year we had 32. We won first in biggest chapter increase and second in largest chapter in the region,” Greene said.
This award is also student-nominated. Students write an application for why they believe their FBLA advisor deserves this award. The nominations must be submitted on March 15 by no later than 11:59 pm. The committee which looks at applications then looks at what has been submitted as far as activity within the club.
“Our membership has grown a lot and I believe that is because of Mr. Greene. He planned out recruitment activity, local newspaper involvement, our enterprise day celebration, and overall doing more activities,” sophomore Mya Reddick, FBLA Vice President, mentioned.
Reddick and FBLA President Kaylynn White applied on behalf of Greene with the hope of others recognizing his involvement as they have. Reddick won the Outstanding Local Chapter Officer award this year.
“He gave me a lot of opportunities that other officers may not have had. I also feel he was very dedicated and driven to ensure we succeed,” Reddick explained.
One opportunity Greene brings members is the journey to Cecili Valley Elementary School on March 28 to read to the students for National Literacy Month. Members also will be going to an FBLA end-of-year banquet on May 17. Members also crafted 75 blankets as a club to donate to the women’s and children’s shelters.
Greene’s overall takeaway from winning this award was that he is proud to be someone the FBLA members wanted to nominate. He felt honored that the chapter felt he had put so much time and effort into their club that they wrote his nomination and submitted it.
“Just being there as someone to talk to, mentor, or teach. I think kids see your involvement and when you want to see them succeed,” Greene said.
Greene is set to go to the state level on April 8-10 at The Galt House Hotel in Louisville. If he wins at state, Green will travel onto the national level which will be held in Florida from June 29-July 2.
