We all have a favorite teacher. One we love so much and wish they knew just how much they mean to us. Central’s new Honor Library initiative now allows us to do so.
The Honor Library was created as a way to honor teachers and give back to the school. The idea originated from former English and Social Studies teacher Lisa Oliver and junior English teacher Susan Sherrard. Our librarians, Sarah Bauer and Jessica Hundley, were more than happy to make that idea a reality.
To donate a book, you can scan the QR code on the flyers around the school or use the link on the Facebook post about the Honor Library. That will lead you to an Amazon wishlist with a selection of books to choose from. If you have another book in mind to dedicate, they will gladly take that as well.
“Our goal was to have at least 30 Honor Library books for the year, and we ended up getting that many before school even started, “ Hundley said.
As of Sept.11, 41 books have been donated in honor of life-changing teachers and staff.

Former librarian Lynn Autry donated in honor of a former colleague, Betty Abraham Kirchner, saying, “She was one of a kind. I’m grateful that I got to know her and am able to honor her memory in this way.”
“The information I learned in her class and FFA, I still use in my daily life,” Kaitlyn Davis, a CHHS alum, honored Ag teacher and FFA sponsor Jayna Thompson, noting that, “Every good moment of my high school career, Jayna Thompson was there clapping and cheering me on.”
Angela Cannon, sophomore English teacher, donated–along with the entire English Department–on behalf of recently retired freshman English teacher Paul Gray.
After getting a few other goodbye gifts, the department still had money left over, and Cannon thought to use it for an honor book. She also chose a specific book for Gray because of a sweet story. She had a former student tell her that, “Gray always keeps Western books for me. Do you have any?” Thinking back to that student (and others over the years), she decided it would be only fitting to honor Gray with a collection of Western short stories by Louis L’Amour.
The Honor Library has clearly had quite the response, and we invite you to keep this little act of kindness going. Donate in honor of your favorite teacher(s) today while you still can! Click the link below
