JRTOC Excels at Hardin County Drill Cup

The Bruin JROTC Battalion hosted the 9th Annual Hardin County Drill Cup on Feb. 9. A good crowd was on hand to watch and support the Cadets from Central, John, and North Hardin along with North Bullitt High Schools. The Kentucky Army National Guard, and ROTC Cadets from Western Kentucky University and the University of Kentucky provided judges for the eight team events and two Knockout events.

The Central Hardin Bruins won 7 of 8 team events and both Knockout events. Commanders and their event(s): Clayton Hockman – Armed Platoon & Male Color Guard; Mathew Crum Armed Exhibition; Mikayla Sallee – Unarmed Platoon: Jill Willingham – Female Color Guard and Unarmed Exhibition; and Jaden Gavin – 1 st Year Squad. The Bruins placed first and second in Armed Knockout with Samuel Sexton and Mathew Crum. Mikayla Sallee won the Unarmed Knockout with Emma Rishkofski placing third.

The Bruins will take their undefeated record and attempt to defend their title at the SGM Paul C. Gray Memorial Drill Championship (7 th Brigade – MI, IN, OH, KY & TN) on 12-13 March. The Bruins placed 1 st in the Unarmed Division and 3 rd in the Armed Division at the last held meet in 2019.

The Central Hardin Bruins stand proud after winning 9 of 10 events and capturing their 9th straight Hardin County Drill Cup on 9 February. The team will compete next at the SGM Paul Gray JROTC Drill Championship at North Hardin on 12-13 March. (Courtesy of Roland Haun)
