For the past few years, there has been a strange hiatus on one of Central’s most treasured events: the talent show. It seemed to have been forgotten during the chaotic period of Covid-19 and the ongoing construction work. Students were left pondering whether or not it would ever return. Fortunately, principal Tim Isaacs has brought forth some clarity on the matter with enlightening news about what will come.
“I tried to figure it out last year and the year before. We went from Covid where we couldn’t have a talent show to just not having a place for it. I actually at one point tried to figure it out last year if we could do it outside, but there were so many roadblocks. If we can figure it out we’ll have it and we should be able to because we should have the big gym,” Isaacs said.
He inferred that the responsibility of the talent show will fall on the Student Council since they organized it in the past, so they or someone else must be willing to take on the task, but he’s in favor of it. He also mentioned that there is no active discussion about the talent show as of now, but that there will be towards the end of the year.
It’s relieving to know that the talent show hasn’t been completely disregarded and should be making a comeback later this school year. It’s a highlighting occurrence for each high school and is a very memorable moment for students.
In fact, two-time talent show winner Tristin Edblom understood the importance of an annual talent show and had a few things to share about his experience.
“It was a really cool experience and motivated me to keep doing what I love. They [Student Council] should definitely bring it back. It’s one of the only ways for kids to show off what they’re capable of. It teaches kids competition in the entertainment world and opens up a doorway of expression,” Edblom remarked.
There’s no denying the effect the talent show has had on its past participants. Just as Edblom explained, it allows kids to share their abilities and convey who they are; and many of them never forget that. The doorway to expression for Central Hardin students may just open up later in the year as new talent is brought to the table and unique qualities are discovered. Until then, keep the tapes rolling.
