Fortnite is a video game to some and a way of life for others. I remember when I was in the fifth grade, it had just come out. Shortly after, it rose in popularity and even developed some of that year’s biggest trends. For example, the floss dance was made more popular. With the return of the “OG” Fortnite for only a limited amount of time, I wondered what all the buzz was about. A survey was conducted to see what the students thought about all the Fortnite talks; and to hear from our student body and let them know their voice is heard.
“O.G Fortnite gives me some kind of remembrance of my childhood which makes the game more enjoyable in some ways, freshman Makayla Shipman said, so yes, I would say O.G Fortnite is a whole lot better than the newer seasons,”
After the game came out, it instantly became popular. Everyone was doing the dances and talking about it in school. It appealed to many people because of how you can play it on any platform.
“It is a great game and it rose in popularity because of its game style,” freshman Jordan Bailey explained.
Others have mixed opinions about the game, saying it’s horrible or they find it annoying. After the success of it back in 2017, the success slowly declined. The original maps are iconic and when they changed it many people didn’t like it.
“Honestly, the O.G. Fortnite is completely overrated because Epic Games has had this card up their sleeves but they’re just now starting to use it even though their game has been dying for a while.” Sophomore Gabriel Perez said.
Even if they don’t continue to play the game, the “OG” is nostalgic to many kids because many haven’t played it since it was popular six years ago.
“I believe nostalgia is a blinding feeling, we spend every day marching on…when we were nothing but young Elementary or middle schoolers, we didn’t have applications to worry about or grades that were difficult to keep up.” Junior Landon Slinker explains.
With the original map ending, many CHHS students don’t feel the “OG” is any better than the new version.
“The O.G. Fortnite didn’t have tycoons and obbys (obstacles in the game),” junior Bryndan Simpson argued.
“They both come with their pros and cons,” junior Landon Slinker argued. Now that the original is gone from our screens again, the game has risen in popularity more than it has in a few years. Fortnite will be a key part of our generation like Super Mario Bros was for our parents.
