Since middle school, we have all experienced or heard of homecoming. Twice a year, we are asked to participate in voting for students in our graduating class. Our elected peers walk across the turf in their heels and fancy dresses, all glammed up. Alumni from years ago come to watch a new generation play football as they see the stands become packed with friends and families from near and far.
So why is the Homecoming Court important? Why should you vote?
Some students may not care who wins or whom to vote for, so they choose random people. But others get excited and want to vote for their friends. Some will see their name and feel overjoyed because it has never appeared on the ballot before. Voting gives students who don’t have many friends or know many people a chance to be recognized.
In addition, it allows us the chance to make a statement about who we think are good representatives of our school.
“I think kids should vote for good humans that they feel represent what it means to be a Central Hardin Bruin,” advised long-time Central Hardin teacher and assistant principal Emily Wortham.

When does voting end? Make sure to vote before Wednesday, 10/2. You do not want to miss this chance to see your elected classmates on the ballot. Remember, you can only vote once and must vote for your class’s candidates.
How does the process work? Students who were nominated in first-block classes received an email from Student Council sponsor April York. Students elected to the court will have to listen to the announcements for further instructions on when to meet during PH.
