Jas Hawk, Writer
Hey y’all! I am Jas Hawk and this is my first year on The Central Times Staff. I am a sophomore; however, it is my first year at the school building as I was home schooled last year. I wanted to be in Journalism because I was in a similar class at East Hardin. I love expressing myself creatively in all kinds of ways, including writing, music, and drawing! I am currently learning guitar and piano, and they are both such fun instruments! I’m hoping to be able to write some of my own music eventually, because music helps me to connect to others! This includes myself, family, and friends!
While music is one thing that connects me, art is another! I’m in the TSA design club. Art is one of my sweet retreats from the world, and I love drawing characters from story ideas. I’m also in the Mental Health Council! I especially love indulging in learning about our differences. I want to learn about different perspectives in the school and what influences those views. I have a couple of ideas to improve our mental health awareness that I’m hoping to implement this year.
I love learning new things, which really includes anything. Reading, school, and research help me do that. I love helping my Dad out in the garage for some hands-on woodwork, taking classes or lessons to help improve myself, and helping my stepmom cook. Even chores help me learn things like time management, flexibility, and hard work!
I’m so happy that I am able to represent my school and the student body!
(Also, I usually wear a mask in the halls of Central.)
Camden Derosa, Writer
Hey y'all, My name is Camden Derosa. I'm a senior here at Central Hardin and this is my first year on staff for The Central Times. I am excited to be given this opportunity to join this wonderful staff filled with amazing people.
My plans for this year are to be able to write about any subject big or small because I want to use this opportunity to do good. I have always been a naturally skilled writer which has allowed me to grow my understanding of multiple subjects that has happened all around me. I am involved in Central through Pep Club, Yearbook, and Newspaper which has allowed me to see all angles of student life all around Central. I want to be able to appeal to all with my writing and I can do that through other viewpoints which I like to take into account when writing. The people around me help inspire me to write and through writing, I feel that I have another purpose which is to help others who need to be given a voice.
I enjoy playing and watching sports which has inspired me to write sports articles all about our teams here at Central. I want to be able to see every team that you can watch here and my goal is almost complete after the past couple of years. I hope to be able to create enjoyable articles that all will want to read and enjoy together.
I'm honored to be a writer for The Central Times and look forward to helping write the amazing publications created by our staff.
Go Bruins.
Cici Hicks, Writer
Hello! I'm Cici Hicks, a sophomore and it's my second year on The Central Times staff. I was fortunate to join the staff as a freshman, which only further ignited my passion for writing, something I've always wanted to pursue.
I am thankful for the support and guidance from the 2023-2024 staff who have helped me become the writer I am today.
Aside from writing, I enjoy listening to and playing music, as well as watching films. Music is a huge and favorite part of my life, whether I'm listening to my favorite bands like The Beatles, The Smashing Pumpkins, and The Smiths, or playing my guitar, which I picked up about three years ago.
Representing the voices of my fellow students at Central is something that I'm incredibly passionate about, and I'm genuinely excited to continue doing so as a part of the staff this year!
Kaylea Green, Writer
Hello, everyone! My name is Kaylea Green, and I am currently a senior student. This year will be my 1st year on The Central Times staff. I'm excited to be on this staff and learn new things from my peers that will help me later in life.
Journaling has been a passion of mine ever since I was little. For me, it was a way to express my true feelings and thoughts without being judged. I believe that you should write down when you're feeling a certain way to show how much you can improve yourself. Improvement isn't a bad thing. I joined the newspaper to improve my awareness of what is happening around the school and in our community. Andto make sure everyone knows they have a voice. A goal I have this year is to write articles that people can relate to and maybe give them the confidence to speak up and bring change.
A little bit about me: I love to read mystery, romance, and young adult books. The music I like to listen to is the newer 2000's country. Some of my favorite shows are Anyone But You, NCIS, suits, and Mother of the Bride. My favorite subject in school is English.
After I graduate I plan to go to college at Owensboro Community and Technical College to pursue the vet pathway. I love animals as I have 3 dogs of my own and I want to help our furry friends. One of my goals in this field is to open up a business with a fellow vet and make a doggy daycare and resort within my animal hospital.
Emma Smith, Writer
Hi! I’m Emma Smith. I am a junior this year, and this is my first year on The Central Times Staff. Shortly after starting junior year, I found myself looking for a bigger outlet for writing after writing poems and long essays for my English teachers. I ended up at Ms. Sherrard’s desk asking about The Central Times. I found interest in writing from teachers assigning creative essays, writing poems, journaling my thoughts, and reading stories. Along with being a part of Central Times, I am also a part of the Pep Club, FFA, and Teenage Republicans.
As a part of the staff, I look forward to getting my voice out there, bringing attention to topics important to me and my classmates, and creating bonds with my fellow staff members. I also look forward to all the experiences and amazing opportunities that come with writing for The Central Times.
A little about me: I’m usually with my friends during my free time. If not, I’m watching movies, my favorites are Buffalo 66, Black Swan, and Silence of the Lambs. I enjoy listening to music, mostly Lana Del Rey, journaling, dreamboarding, or finding something to do in nature that occupies my time. I hope you get as much out of reading my articles as I do writing them!
Emily Tester, Writer, Social Media Manager
Hello! My name is Emily Tester and I am the managing editor of The Central Times for the 2024-2025 school year. I am a junior and this is my second year on the staff. Not only did I have the chance to join the staff my sophomore year but I get to continue to be a part of it. I'm excited to see what's in store for the upcoming months!
Being on the staff last year opened my eyes to the beauty of journalism. Growing up, I had always liked English class. I loved to read (and still do) and make up stories and journal about anything and everything. When I entered middle school I started honors English class. In my eighth grade year, I discovered my talent and enjoyment in writing.
Entering freshman year, I made a promise to myself that I would put my writing skills to good use and joined The Central Times. This decision has brought many lights to my life. Not only do I get to write, but I've met so many great people along the way. It wouldn't have been the same without the 2023-2024 Central Time staff.
I am also active in FBLA where I am the Region 3 Reporter, Beta Club, Pep Club, and have been working since I turned 15 years old. I love to be active and hope to join and do many more things this year.
I hope you enjoy my articles as much as I enjoy writing them!
Lindy Barnes, Editor-in-Chief
Hey, I’m Lindy, and I’m so excited to return to The Central Times Staff! It has been a joy to get to know my fellow classmates and inform the community of the pressing issues at our school. In the summer of 2023, I attended GSA for creative writing, which grew my appreciation for the craft of words. This past summer, I spent five weeks at Murray State University in the Governor’s Scholars Program where I studied historical analysis. During the school year, I’m involved in the Executive Council, Beta Club, Cross Country, and Academic Team. I have a passion for learning, especially when it comes to classic literature, art, history, and math. Some of my favorite hobbies are reading, spending time with my two guinea pigs, and playing quiz bowl. I know Central Hardin will accomplish much in the 2024-25 school year. My wish is that I’ll be able to capture a fraction of the tenacity, individuality, and potential of every person here.
Audrey Johnson, Social Media Manager/Assistant Editor
Hello! My name is Audrey Johnson and I'm a Senior this year. This is my second year on the Central Times staff. I've always had a passion for writing ever since elementary school. I look back on my earlier articles and think I've come so far with my writing. I never really thought about joining the newspaper, even though I enjoyed writing and loved reading about pop culture in the news. This might sound silly but, the TV show "Gilmore Girls" inspired me to join the Times. It was inspiring how with one article you can make a difference in your school or community. But unlike "Gilmore Girls" I wanted some constructive criticism on my work so I become better at it.
Besides writing, I love to read, listen to music, watch movies, etc. I'm a regional officer and President of FCCLA, member of the Beta Club, President Educators Rising, NSHSS, and participated in the Youth Solute program. The thing I love the most about being on the staff is the people. We all have a similar goal in mind and that is having a voice and presence within our school. I want to present a non-bias and informational place for all people to enjoy and learn from. After I graduate, I hope to major in Family and Consumer Sciences education and Journalism. With the knowledge I have gained, my experiences here will go farther than a high school classroom! Go Bruins!
Becca Hyde, Writer
Hi!! My name is Rebecca Hyde, and I am a junior here at Central. I enjoy music of all types and have been in our school's choir since I got here. I am also involved in Cecilia Baptist Church, helping out wherever and whenever I can. I love being involved in my community in any way possible.
I love all different fonts of music, but some of my favorites are rap, rock, country, and acoustic. I also enjoy playing all different types of music, and can often be found playing guitar, piano, or drums.
This is my first official year on The Central Times staff. I am so excited to see what the future holds for our student body. Last year, I had many people on the staff that I looked up to. They told me all about what it was like writing for The Central Times, and how much of an impact they were making in their peers' lives. I decided that I wanted to share my voice and show others that they have a voice that deserves to be heard.
This year I hope to carry on the legacy of the writers who came before me, as well as pave the pathway for those who may come after me. I truly hope y'all enjoy my articles this year!!
Lily Williams, Assistant Editor
Hey everyone! My name is Lily Williams! I am a senior and this will be my second year on The Central Times staff. I am more than grateful to have the chance to be on amazing staff again, and simply cannot wait for this upcoming year!
Ever since joining the staff last year, my love and passion for writing has only grown! Flashback to me 10 years ago, my favorite thing to do was write my own stories in my little pink journal. Rushing home to jot down my imaginations and thoughts is something I’d absolutely adored! Back then I would not have imagined myself writing for the school newspaper today, but I am more than glad that I joined as I now have the opportunity to share my voice with such a great community!
Aside from writing, I have many other hobbies that you could catch me doing. Things like spending time with family, shopping, watching movies, playing outdoors, and doing Bible studies are just some of the things I really enjoy. I’m also involved in a few extracurricular activities here at Central. These include FCA, FCCLA, track and field, and bowling.
My biggest goal for the staff this year is to let my voice bring hope, love, and care for all my peers to see! It’s so important to me that everyone in this building will know how much they matter and how their voices deserve to be heard! That being said, I will do my best to fill this site with articles that are uplifting, thought provoking, and full of truth!
Mea Tabor, Writer
Hi! My name is Mea Tabor. I am currently a senior and this is my first year on The Central Times staff. I am excited to provide the students of Central with meaningful articles.
Through school, I am a member of the academic team, tennis team, and Beta club. I love being a part of these groups where I get to learn more about my peers and give back to the community.
Outside of school, you can catch me reading books, watching movies, listening to music, baking, making art, and playing tennis to pass the time between homework assignments. Some of my favorite books are One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest by Ken Kesey, Good Omens by Neil Gaiman, and The Flavia de Luce mystery series by Alan Bradley. Here are some of my favorite movies: Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe, O’ Brother, Where Art Thou?, and Pete’s Dragon (the original). Currently, my favorite songs are “In One Ear” by Cage The Elephant, “Time Warp” from Rocky Horror Picture Show, and “Wonderful! Wonderful!” by Johnny Mathis.
I hope to be able to bring enjoyable stories to everyone at Central and to help create a safe space in this school, have discussions, and learn from each other.
