Taylor Swift is a name synonymous with greatness. Whether you love or hate her, you can’t deny she has done well in and for the music industry. The Eras tour began in March of 2023 and ended in December of 2024. The Eras Tour is truly its own era, and it was the longest tour Swift had done. It is “the most fun she ever had,” as she stated at one of her last shows. We will have to give this era a bittersweet goodbye.
No one knew what to expect from this tour, as it had a different vibe from what she had previously done. Usually, she would write an album and promote a tour for one album. For example, the Red tour was for the Red album. However, with the Covid-19 pandemic, she had three albums that hadn’t been showcased on tours. With that being said, when she released the album Midnights, everyone assumed it would just be the Midnights tour like she has always done. Then, it morphed into what we know today: a journey through all the musical eras in her life.
“It was an epic experience. Not just a concert, an EXPERIENCE,” English teacher Kayla Honaker said.
Swift began the first U.S. leg of the tour in 2023. She made approximately two billion dollars in tour ticket sales. So many people wanted to buy tickets that Ticketmaster crashed and burned. The people who were there considered themselves lucky as they witnessed history in the making.
“I think if you were a bigger fan, you should’ve had a better opportunity at attending,” student Brooklyn Aubrey said.
You can say that her tour went well. She announced Speak Now: Taylor’s Version at a show in Nashville and spent the summer of 2023 performing all over the United States. She even changed her set list when Speak Now came out to incorporate more songs from the album.
The first U.S. leg of the tour came to an end, however, in August of 2023 she traveled to Mexico City beginning the international leg of the tour. She released the Eras Tour movie and 1989: Taylor’s Version soon after. Swift took a short hiatus and then continued shows outside of the United States for the rest of the year.
The Eras tour seemed to be even bigger when Swift was overseas. People watched with bated breath over a glitchy live-stream to see what surprise songs she would play next. The media started swarming once she made the announcement; it was a surprise for all.
The surprise announcement was the Tortured Poets Department album at the Grammys on February 4, 2024. The new album would be released on April 19, 2024. Swift took a short break between March and May and came back to a whole new set list. A lot of the songs were the same, but some were unfortunately cut due to time constraints since it is a three-hour show detailing her whole discography.
She spent the whole summer of 2024 in Europe playing for sold-out stadiums. Then, Swift did another small leg of the tour in the U.S. to cities she hadn’t yet played in as well as traveled to Canada at the very end of the year.
It was “the most exhausting, all-encompassing, but most joyful, most rewarding, most wonderful thing that has ever happened” in her life,” Swift said according to BBC.com
Overall, the Eras Tour is the highest-grossing tour of all time according to EconomicTimes. Swift has raised the bar for other artists as she worked continuously for two years straight for her Swifties. Even though the tour is over, it will forever be in our hearts as it proved she is a mastermind.
