People watch many different shows for many different reasons. People watch Dexter because it keeps them entertained and on the edge of their seats the whole time. The show has many different twists and turns in each episode, and the more you watch, the more you are intrigued. It keeps the watchers in suspense. There are four different shows, and each one goes further into the journey of the loved serial killer Dexter Morgan.
The first show, Dexter, is my personal favorite, and it always had many different turns of events throughout the whole show. There are eight seasons to this show. When it starts, it may be a little slow for some viewers, but after you get past the first couple of episodes, it grabs many viewers’ attention. He works as a blood spatter analyst while trying to follow in his father’s strict code, who was also a cop, and evading suspicion by the cops. Dexter Morgan shows his struggle between keeping his secret life of being a serial killer and keeping his personal life separate. Throughout the show, many different things interfere with this, causing a problem that he has to figure out.
The second show is a continuation of the first show. The show is called Dexter: New Blood, and it shows his life after a major problem faced at the end of the first show. The show was a little harder to get interested in with the first episode, but you have to trust the process and follow through with watching it. It took me a while to like it cause it does turn out a little different than the first show, but in the end it was worth the time spent watching it. The show ties up some loose ends that were left untouched when it came to the end of the first show. It shows him and his son, Harrison, going back and forth as Dexter tries to get back into Harrison’s life. The ending of the second show left me speechless when I watched it, and I couldn’t wait to start watching the next show.
The third show, Dexter: Original Sin, is a flashback to when Dexter, his father Harry, and his sister Debra were younger. It was when Dexter had just received his guidelines for killing, and when he first started his job as a blood-spatter analyst. In the first show, we get to see a little about what happened when Dexter was little, but this show gives you a more detailed overview of what happened, and we get to see more about his mother and his adoptive father, Harry. It’s more of a background-filled show, but it still has importance to it.
Now, while these are all part of the Dexter series, the third and fourth shows are not directly related, but they still connect the story. The fourth show came out this year, Dexter: Resurrection, which is about Dexter waking up from a coma. This is the aftermath of something that happens in New Blood. He sets out to search for his son again to make things right with him. He takes his time to find him, but ends up finding out that his son is in some trouble. Dexter is trying to make things better for Harrison and get back into his life as a father. While everything with his son is going on, Dexter starts to get into some of his own trouble and poses as someone else. Now, while he is doing that, a former coworker of his starts to take a deeper dive into something major in the first show. The season ending was amazing, but also left me speechless. This show has a lot going on in it, and you have to pay attention. The new season won’t come out until later in 2026 or possibly even early 2027.
There are also books if you would rather read the books, but remember that things are different from the show and the books. I have read the first two books, and I would definitely recommend reading them as well if you are interested. There are changes, as one would expect, but it’s fun getting to see a different story that both the shows and books show. The author is Jeff Lindsay.
So if you are into crime and mystery, Dexter is definitely the way to go. It has a great storyline and is full of moments that really make you think. The shows are amazing and have enough episodes to keep you watching. There are eight books, and each one comes with a different journey into Dexter’s life and shows the different challenges that he faces. It’s different from the show, and you will see that if you watch and read the Dexter series. Either way, I highly recommend watching and/or reading the Dexter series.
