At the beginning of this year, students who were involved in the previous political clubs of Central Hardin were in for a lot of change. Because the number of members in each club, previously Young Democrats and Teenage Republicans, has varied so greatly year after year, the clubs have been combined into one organization. Thanks to sophomore Evy Putrawan, they’re calling it United Voices.
This year, it’s going to be up to the students to handle their political disagreements in a civil and respectful way. Students who have been appointed officers will be those in charge of settling any issues that arise, if any happen to. Other members will participate by writing articles and doing active volunteer work in the local community.
In their articles, United Voices plans to write their own newspaper articles, each featuring sections written from different political perspectives. According to Krusha Patel, the goal of the articles is to “…keep kids informed about the political atmosphere and pressing political issues,” because, “As people who will soon join the voting population, it’s important to know what each party stands for on key issues…”
The Central Times is excited to announce that we will be providing an outlet for United Voices to make their opinions heard. United Voices now has its own featured section appearing at the top of The Central Times news sites. You can find all their writing under the United Voices tab on our website’s header. If you’re interested in finding out more, there are already articles available to be read!
Currently, United Voices is co-run by Rachel Wilson, the social studies teacher here at Central Hardin and a previous sponsor of Teenage Republicans, and fellow teacher Ryan Swink. The sponsors want any and all who wish to be involved to be as involved as possible. So if you would like to find out more information about joining, please contact Rachel Wilson at [email protected]
The club fee for entry is still $15.
