It may not sound like a big deal, but this year will be the first-ever season of Boys’ Volleyball Central Hardin has ever seen. Seriously, ever. For the past 35 years, any interest shown in the sport had been dismissed without coming to fruition. Until now, that is.
Jeff Crady, junior English teacher, has taken the lead role as coach over the team alongside Matt Nickell, a former basketball coach and volleyball referee at CHHS. Crady hopes to see many more students interested in being a part of the group, people who can come with a positive attitude and have just as much fun as those on the team have already been having.
Already, there have been open-gym practices, building that community, and growing. Jude Stith, a sophomore student who helped spread the word and get the team started, says that the best part of all of this, besides the fun, is getting to learn the sport as a team.
Coach Crady says he’s “most looking forward to watching the guys grow as players and as a team.”
As for the actual try-outs, any male student interested will need to bring a sports physical or have one currently on file. Officially, try-outs will be at East Hardin Middle School on Feb.16 from 6:30-8:00 p.m. If you have additional questions about try-outs, Coach Crady will be available to answer them through email or in person.
But the real work will begin once the team has been selected. The full team starts less than a month from now. Officially, the spring season for Boys’ Volleyball starts March 6.
